A Story

Robert T. Davenport 1979 (Newark, New Jersey)

A Story
By Robert T. Davenport

In the depths of despair, where darkness did reside,
A story unfolded, of a soul who defied.
Born into a broken home, where love was scarce,
They navigated a world, filled with pain and despair.

In the streets they wandered, searching for a way,
To escape the cycle, to find a brighter day.
But the allure of quick money, of power and fame,
Led them down a path, filled with guilt and shame.

They sold drugs on corners, where shadows did creep,
Robbed from the desperate, their souls buried deep.
Evading the clutches of justice, they danced on the edge,
A life of danger and chaos, a constant pledge.

But deep within their heart, a flicker did ignite,
A longing for something more, a yearning for light.
In the darkest of nights, they found solace in words,
In the rhythm and rhyme, their voice finally heard.

They poured their pain onto paper, like ink on a page,
Crafting verses of truth, of love, and of rage.
Their words became weapons, against the life they once knew,
A powerful poet emerged, strong and true.

They spoke of the streets, of the struggles they faced,
Of the brokenness and sorrow, that could not be erased.
Their words carried weight, resonating with souls,
Inspiring others to rise, to take control.

Through the power of poetry, they found their way,
A beacon of hope, in a world of dismay.
They shed their old skin, like a snake in rebirth,
Embracing their calling, their purpose on Earth.

No longer defined by their past, by the mistakes they made,
They rose above the darkness, unafraid.
They became a symbol, of resilience and grace,
A testament to the human spirit's embrace.

Now they stand tall, a powerful poet indeed,
Their words a balm, for those in need.
They share their story, with courage and might,
A beacon of hope, in the darkest of night.

So, dear poet, embrace your journey, your strife,
For it has shaped you, and given you life.
Your words have the power, to heal and to mend,
To inspire others, to help them transcend.

From the brokenness you emerged, like a phoenix in flight,
A powerful poet, shining with light.
May your words continue to touch hearts and souls,
And may your story inspire, as it beautifully unfolds.
