My Muse Retired

I reached for pen to write a thought,
from brain the words were leaking.
But Muse held firmly pen in hand
and then she started speaking…

“I will not give this pen to you
for there’s been too much writing.
I cannot take another night
of working and moonlighting.
For many months you had me trapped
while you did your suppression.
Not once did you reach out for pen
to spill words in confession”.
And now for twenty days and nights
You’ve lit the flames of fire.
The only thought that I have left
is to run away, retire”.

And then she left just like she said
and left no words in stock.
I must prepare, my cupboard’s bare,
to greet my Writer’s Block.

Gisela Vigil

Thank you for welcoming me to this community. I was born in Cuba but emigrated with my family to the US when I was three. I am mother to three young adults now, and also a grandmother. I’ve been writing for years, some I share, others I still keep in my personal file. I often write of struggles for we all face them as we journey through life. But still, I feel peace knowing I try my best. Feel blessed to have been given the gift of writing which I strive to improve cause there’s always room for growth. more…

The link doesn't work. If you wish, you can go to AllPoetry.com and look up Symmetry59. The poem is When Thought Refuses to Sleep. If not, that's fine. :-)

What a great concept. I'd written a poem of this nature last year but in reverse proportion when I couldn't stop the creative flow. Thoughts poured into my head as I lay trying to sleep. I had to get out of bed to write them down. Funny how it comes and goes like that. This is a great read and write.

The non stop writing is what I'm going through now. Just like you, I wake at 3am to write some nights. Thanks for reading and voting.

One thing in this: one wonders how all of this is going to end; where it is going, and then the surprising end, and all makes sense for the poem comes together.
This is a marvelous piece, and I enjoyed the reading.
    You have done well here!

Wow, what a clever and creative poem! The way you personified the Muse and expressed her frustrations is brilliant. The use of rhyme and rhythm adds a delightful flow to the poem, making it a joy to read.

One improvement suggestion I have is to maybe vary the length of the stanzas to create a more dynamic effect. You could experiment with shorter and longer stanzas to give the poem some visual interest and enhance the rhythm.

Additionally, it would be great to see more vivid imagery or metaphorical language to further bring the emotions and struggles of the narrator to life. This could help the reader connect even more deeply with the theme of writer's block.

Overall, though, this poem is a wonderful piece of writing that captures the frustrations and challenges of a writer. Keep up the fantastic work!
