crown of gold and ruby lips

The sheets whisper cool against my worn-out skin,
Shadows dance on walls where laughter used to spin.
My eyes, grown misty, trace the fading light,
And summon forth a face, my guiding star so bright.

Her hair, a crown of gold, spun sunlight in its strands,
A waterfall of warmth that graced my trembling hands.
Her lips, like rubies kissed by sunrise in the morn,
Curved in a smile that chased away the shadows, newly born.

We built a life, a world, with dreams for bricks and stone,
Where love's soft melody in whispers we had known.
The years, like gentle tides, they ebbed and flowed along,
And every day with her, a joyous, vibrant song.

But time, a thief unseen, with silent steps did creep,
And stole her laughter soft, plunged me in slumber deep.
Now memories, like embers, glow in twilight's hush,
Of ruby lips and hair of gold, a love that cannot be crushed.

Though shadows stretch and lengthen in this lonely room,
Her warmth, a embered sun, cuts through the gathering gloom.
For love, like starlight, lingers long after day is done,
And in my heart, she'll shine, my golden, ruby sun.
