Alter Ego

Alter ego, second I
Who truly is me
It could be you, or even I
A distorted image
Of me myself and I.

Now there’s a third person,
It’s neither you, nor even I
Is they who watch, even when I close my eyes,
My every step, my every move
Before I count sheep, they right next to me.

My alter ego, my second I,
Reveal yourself, you want me gone
You want to be one, just you and I,
Dear alter ego, dear second I
You hate me, and so do I.

It’s me, alter ego, your second I
Agony written on our bed, our pillow wet,
Sandpaper throat, it hurts a lot,
Unspoken words, why do you endure it all?

About this poem

Alter ego is a poem about an individual who splits his emotional side from the side everyone is wxposed to every day. The emotional side repeatedly tries to take over as it hates the fact that the individual refuses to portray any of its true emotions and has to hide them. Alter ego isn’t truly an alter ego. It’s just the side that the individual tries to hide

Esther A

Hello there! My name is Esther and I’m 16 years old, in 4 months I’ll finally be 17. I was raised in Spain, Barcelona, so all my life I’ve been writing poems in Catalan and Spanish. I’ve won some local awards with them. I moved to the Uk when I was about to turn 15. Then I started writing English poetry, that’s why they’re not the best.. Since I was little I’ve always liked observing people and wondering how their lives are like. I would stand in my kitchen window and look at people as they walk by. I’d write about the different emotions they’d portray, and hence I’ve been writing since I was about 8. more…
