Baby Boy Burned
I walked in to the Emergency Room unprepared for what I saw,
Burned from side to side a crying baby so small.
I looked at the father and asked what went wrong,
Little did I know, getting the truth would take all night long.
It’s easy to lose control sometimes with our kids,
But as parents we have to learn how to hold that anger within.
No matter what the baby done, it would never justify what I learned this parent did.
A one year old little boy learning how to walk and explore,
Who’s always into everything and never to be ignored.
He smiles with happiness with each new step he takes,
then dad comes home mad, and this baby makes a mistake.
He struck him on the leg but didn’t think that was rough,
So he took it even further not realizing he’d done enough.
He crossed a line no parent should ever cross,
Just to show an infant that he was the boss.
As this precious child lays in a hospital bed in agony and in pain,
You now sit in your jail cell because you’re the one to blame.
When you think of him, I hope your thoughts drive you insane.
The baby you hurt who you thought couldn’t cry for help,
Was heard loud and clear when I saw the burns and bruises you left.
Today, he is cared for and loved from the outside in,
and for you, you will never place your hands upon his tiny body again.
For the child who was burned and abused, unable to make a fuss,
Is the baby boy that took your freedom with a little help from us.
