A Poor Battered Man

Edwin Tanguma 1966 (CA)

A Poor Battered Man
#20
The other day I met a man
Who had been in a vicious fight
He told me he had been walking
Alone down an alley one night

When out jumped a group of gangsters
Who were just itching for a fight
He told them he had no money
You see he was not all that bright

They thought that he must be lying
Just by the way with which he dressed
So they began to pummel him
Within an inch of his last breath

And they found that he was truthful
Even unto the very end
He had two cents in his pocket
And not even one single friend

You see because of a woman
Heal come to the end of the line
Because that woman was his wife
Who did not know how to tell time

P.s.Now he’s only half the person
That he was before this happened
