Forgive and forget

They tell you to forgive and forget. But I could never forget what you did to me. All the years of pain, pain, pain, and hatred that I had for you, hatred that I no longer have for you but that lingers in my heart as a dying ember in a dry forest, ever yearning to spark a flame so bright that the sun became jealous of its sheer beauty.

They tell you to forgive and forget but I could never forgive what you did to me, I tried, I really did, but there was no excuse, there was no story that you could tell that would be magically make all of the suffering go away. I understand, why you did what you did, it was all you knew, but I can never forgive the nights when all I could hear was your screams, screams, screams, piercing through the night, breaking my innocence piece by piece until it was just a memory that I know I had but I just can’t remember the feeling of holding it in my arms, feeling the warmth that it gave me, the gentle touch of childhood stroking my hair as I fell asleep.

They tell you to forgive and forget.
