As if you were mine.

Ray Howell 2012 (South Carolina)

Darling I see shadows,
Up against the wall.
But the wall is too shallow,
I’m afraid I might just fall.
I want to put it simply,
So you will understand,
But I always seem to imply,
That it was made by my own hand.
The patriarchy calls,
So I must now pretend.
A single leaf falls,
Is this the end?
Darling I’m In love,
Whether or not with you.
Might we need a glove,
To touch the world?
For we are both women,
Our hair finger-curled,
They think us so dependent,
Sheep to their gods,
Leaving an indent
On their precious intact worlds.
Our minds not so,
So they fasten our pearls for us.
For we are are as valuable as gold,
Yet as useless as dust.
