A Verse For Gertrude Stein

A Verse For Gertrude Stein

I’ll aim to be like Gertrude Stein
So come ye sinners, have your wine.
Please whisper charms or spells or rhymes
And tell of legend…airy times -
Of jesters or those…. concubines.
Of parsley, sage, rosemary
limes.
Cause maybe I’m a Gertrude Stein
Whose portraits hung not in a line.
Or so it said, some book of mine.
Not dangerous, but not benign.
Is not this pretty, deep…. a sign?
And now I’ll throw in a slant rhyme….
And write a little, cheeky, verse for Gertrude Stein.

About this poem

I had a few glasses of wine in my emptied parlour and thought of Gertrude Stein?
