A Tender Age

The Doctor used the "C" word in
A conference parents dread.
Leukemia is where it's been
For months, now tests ahead.

He'll need blood samples and x-rays
To learn what's best to do.
Your child will miss the time he plays
With friends and sometimes you.

Try not to let him see your tears,
It's hard enough for him.
Try not to give into your fears
In case the news is grim.

He will be under so much stress
If he needs surgery;
Plus, medicine and all the rest
Including therapy.

Please speak with optimism then
Give him a hug and kiss.
He'll treasure every moment when
He spends his time like this!
