A Song of the Birds

I love the birds you’ve planted
To nestle in my trees
Knowing that all the while
They do as you please

They flutter and a-flounder
Across the breadth and bath
Knowing that all the while
You’ve set them on their path

I pray for wings to guide me
When life’s course is a-stir’d
Knowing that all the while
You answer the unheard

Beaked beasts will surmount above
The lofty heights of trees
Knowing that all the while
Your hand holds up the breeze

I love your hand that bestows
The order of my song
Knowing that all the while
You’ll bring me home by dawn
