Above water

Struggling to stay above the water. Taking a deep breath with each wave that passes. Holding on tight to the rope that was thrown to me. It begins to disintegrate before my eyes. Water attempting to reach my lungs. Hold your breath dear soul. Is that a beacon in the distance or a mirage? The light is fading, body becoming fatigued. How can I survive this? A distinguishing voice pleads, Just hold on a bit longer!! The rope snaps, life flashing before my eyes. The tide slowly devouring. No strength left to fight. Submerging deeper into the depths.
