Your Addiction

Your addiction weaves a web of lies and blame. Angry words cut my heart to pieces.
Back and forth.
An endless game.
A litany of hate that never ceases.

I watch, powerless, as you slip into madness. Hoping for a lucid moment that never arrives. Broken window.
Our relationship.
Shards of glass reflecting ebon skies.

Yet beneath the din,
somewhere in the shadows,
hidden by your delusions.
You.
Beating heart.
Flesh and bone.

Calm your mind.
Be still.
Breathe.

About this poem

It is my hope that anyone who has fought addiction personally or has seen a loved one slip away due to addiction can relate to the the confusing feelings surrounding this experience - loss, pain, anger, and forever a sense of hope in a sea of hopelessness.
