Am I?

I am a breeze that does not know how kind it is.
I am a cliff that does not know how close it is to the edge.

I am a gem that does not know how valuable it is.
I am a larva that does not know how to escape its cocoon.

I am a mountain that does not know how elevated it is.
I am a volcano that does not know how it has yet to erupt.

I am the twig unaware of how fragile it is.
I am the branch that does not know how much shade it provides.

I am the bark unaware of how scarred it is.
I am the trunk that does not know how much sap it has stored inside.

I am the leaf unaware of how green it is.
I am the tree that does not know how much it has grown.

I am the fruits that have hung on for too long.
I am the seeds that have fallen who look up in envy at those who have not.

I am the roots that have become accustomed to the darkness.
I am the flowers that have somehow managed to dance all throughout the night.

About this poem

In this poem I attempt to answer the question, "who am I?" by critiquing myself and doing some deep reflection. I also tackle the internal struggles and contradictions that I have. Basically, I don’t know who I really am.
