A Chance Encounter

Steve Cochrane 1955 (Cape)

The call I made to you last night
Was made by accident
Because I got the number wrong
Without the slightest hint

A girl that I had never met
Would soon pick up her phone
And say hello in such a way,
I would not feel alone.

Your angel voice was cheerful and
You clearly did not mind
Our chance encounter on this night;
A friend I rarely find.

I usually don't have much to say
But when I heard your voice,
The words came out and flowed to you.
And all of them by choice.

We talked and talked until you said
The time had come for you
To try to get some sleep that night.
Which I should try to do.

We traded numbers and goodbyes.
I so looked forward to sunrise!
