Akathisia

Falling Awake 1991 (New Jersey)

Wasting my time,
on the borderline, empty,
I reach for the next second.

But each one I grasp,
traps me again,
time melts into my skin.

My cells are crawling away,
my stomach turns on itself.
my blood is pushing at my veins.

I try peeling off this human suit,
and crawl out this hallow cell,
searching for a more comfortable second.

I grind my teeth,
I fidget my hands,
I pace around.

The present remains unbearable.
