Welcome baby

Welcome to the world, dear sweet child of mine.
Your life has begun, but you aren’t going in blind.

You have your wonderful mother to guide you by hand.
You have your protective father to guide you into a man.

You are loved and cherished in ways that my words will not be able to express.
So as long as we breathe the air in our lungs, you will be loved and safe and nothing less.

We will watch you grow and reach for the stars!
We will dance and play and we might get some scars.

But sometimes that is just how we learn,
You might be 12 and get your first rug burn.

Your mom and dad will show you how to care for your scrapes and bruises.
And while it might seem scary at times, even these little scares will have their uses.

Everyday of life will bring you something new!
As you grow there’s so much you’ll want to do!

Learning everyday and letting your imagination wander!
Your mom and dad cannot wait to hear all of the thoughts you ponder!

They will always put you first even if that means that they have to be stearn.
While much of life will be fun, you will still have manners to learn.

Oh, what happiness you have already brought into the world just by coming into our lives.
Mom and dad promise, we will do all we can to make sure life brings you the same times 5!

About this poem

At 42, I have raised my children into adults, but I was given one last surprise and the world was introduced to my son Kailand. On the 5th day of his life, I sat down to write a way to welcome him into the world and thought maybe other parents with newborns would enjoy it as well.
