Memories by the sea

How I remember the sea foamy bright gentle and blue with a beautiful horizon for all to view. Constant like the stars in the sky a beautiful calm I dream alone and sigh.

The smell of salt air on my face tongue and hair. The occasional blast of sea sand that gets everywhere. People push to find their own place I choose the dunes as my own private space. Past and future go by so fast I wonder why it never lasts.

Curly waves crashing against the sea shore, people starting to brave  the cold water shivering and unsure. Tumblers, divers, creepers you'd see , all with different ways of meeting the waves , that chase their ankles as they brace for the coldness of shock to their bare bodies.

Ours is a course you cannot change, but memories even good can haunt this old face. Older and wiser yes I maybe but give me them happy days of youth sun and sea.

About this poem

This poem was inspired by my visits to the sea side with my eldest daughter when she was a toddler and my own happy memories from a child going to the seaside in little Hampton England. How time flies from being a child to an adult with your own child. This was also my first poem I ever wrote I have tweaked it a bit.
