Kizuna no Omoi: A Plea for Peace from Japanese Youth

Japanese youth, lend an ear to the past,
Where history's lessons are meant to outlast.
Beneath Bataan's sun, a march so forlorn,
Let empathy and peace in your hearts be reborn.

Nagasaki's sky, once painted in fire,
A haunting reminder that peace we desire.
Innocents' dreams shattered, hopes torn apart,
Choose a different future, let compassion restart.

Ukraine, Russia, a conflict unfolds,
Break the cycle, let your voices be bold.
Embrace the peace within, let it bloom and thrive,
For it's in your hands, this change can arrive.

The damage of war, not just physical scars,
But the wounds on hearts from near and from far.
Japanese youth, sow seeds of compassion today,
So the world can awaken to a brighter display.

The pages of history are written in red,
Yet the power to alter the future lies ahead.
Rise from the shadows, let wisdom be earned,
For only through peace, can true lessons be learned.

About this poem

The poem is a heartfelt appeal to the Japanese youth, urging them to reflect on the lessons of history and choose a path of compassion, empathy, and peace. It draws inspiration from the painful events of the past, such as the Bataan Death March and the bombing of Nagasaki, to emphasize the devastating consequences of war. The poem encourages the youth to look within themselves, embrace the values of peace, and take action to break the cycle of conflict and suffering. It ultimately calls for a brighter future where the wounds of war are healed through a commitment to understanding and harmony.
