A year Goes bye

A year seems long
To a child in school
Who dreams of summer
And a swimming pool
A year seems long
For a teen inept
Who dreams of times
When they accept
To catapult
Become adult
A year seems long
To become a wife
To marry joy
To start a life
A year seems long
To await a child
To become a parent
To become more mild
But as time goes on
And days pass by
No longer long
A year will fly
A day seems short
As years go on
A memory fades
Another dawn
A year seems short
To those who ail
And wonder why
The body fail
Why they wished
The time away
Now hoping for
Just one more day
A year seems short
Not one but all
As lives pass thru
From spring to fall
A year seems short
And many go
As we look back
With pride and woe
A year seems short
And so sublime
As we succumb
To sands of time

I enjoyed your poem very much. These were my brief notes as I read through all the August poems:

“Clever poem about the extended expanse of time as children, and its rapid succession as adults; and, of course, our desire to have more of it—especially when we know it is almost up.”
