A Life

"Are mom and dad going to get divorced?", my younger brother asks
It's a question that I've thought about more than I'd like to admit,
Their arguements have been increasing as each day passes,
The topic that it revolves around is typically us, their kids,
Sometimes I think they would've been so much happier if we didn't exist,
But for some inexplainable reason, they like having children,
Maybe its because their bloodline will continue?
Maybe they feel accomplished that they've left their mark on the world and will have descendant?
But I don't believe I share the same sentiment,
Though it might be more because of our way of life than a child itself,
There are many unpleasantries and horrors of the world that I know I wouldn't be able to protect my offspring from,
There are many and unpleasantries of the world that my parents haven't been able to protect me from,
Many they have no knowledge about,
Why would I want to create a life that would have to suffer,
There's always the argument that nothing ever stays bad or good, there's always varying amounts of each in a person's life,
Which is true, and I suppose that's where the notion of choice comes in,
I could see myself wanting a child,
Singular, of course, I would never subject them to the torture of a sibling,
And I would preferably want a girl, because I'd be able to connect with her in ways I couldn't with a boy,
To say that it would be difficult for her in the world we live in is an understatement,
Which is why I wouldn't mind a boy either,
They say boys are easier to raise, which I used to agree with,
But now I see how false the statement is,
Its not that boys are easier to raise, but rather the fact that its tremendously easier for them to survive in our world.
