Anticipation

DeNishea Jackson 1981 (Washington DC)

Leaning in to hear a heartbeat .
Listening close for your name to be called.
Waiting for the rain on that window pane.
Anticipation is it’s name.
Waiting to taste that savory taste.
Staring into his eyes waiting for that kiss.
That warm feeling you get when he’s near.
Anticipation is not to fear.
Anticipation is always near.

About this poem

This poem is about Anticipating something that is so near and close. The feeling you get, the sound you hear and the look on a person’s face when Anticipation occurs.

DeNishea Jackson

Creative, fashion and culture driven. Born in Washington DC, raised in PG County Maryland, and went to high school and graduated in North Carolina. All through school, middle and high school she became interested in writing down her thoughts in class. It wasn’t until she had to learn about poetry, the different kinds of poetry and different infamous poets that she took such interest. After writing for herself and others, she find out that people gave her such high honors about the poems she wrote that she kept a pen in hand. After, graduating high school, she quickly became interested in entertainment where she took acting classes, participated in fashion shows, and this is where she got approached by pageantry experts. She was a semi finalist in Miss NC Pageant 2 consecutive years in a row, but after the passing of both her great grandparents days apart from each other she knew that wasn’t for her. She continued her poetry writing and submitted poems to different contest and publications including poetry.com. Today she enjoys free styling and writing all the same. She currently resides back in the DMV. more…
