Two Places at One Time

In the realm where dreams take flight,
A tale of wonder, pure and prime,
A dance of stars that shine so bright,
I find myself in two places at one time.

In daylight's realm, my feet tread firm,
Amidst the world I call my own,
But when the moon's enchantments burn,
To distant lands, my soul has flown.

In one place, I'm rooted deep,
Bound to the earth's gentle sway,
Yet in my dreams, I'm free to leap,
To realms unknown, where visions play.

As morning's light paints skies in gold,
I wander streets and fields with grace,
But when the night's embrace takes hold,
I travel to an ethereal space.

In daylight's arms, my tasks await,
With duty, joy, and friendships shared,
Yet, in dreams, I traverse a magic gate,
To places where the heart's ensnared.

Through twilight's veil, my essence parts,
Exploring realms beyond the mind,
A mirrored existence, two beating hearts,
In two places, my spirit entwined.

In each world, a different role,
In one, reality unfolds its plan,
In the other, fantasies unroll,
A world of endless dreams I span.

To be in two places at one time,
A gift and mystery intertwined,
A dance between reality and rhyme,
A taste of life, both earthly and divine.

About this poem

This dream came from a morning when I took too much Melatonin the night before. I hadn't slept for a few days, so I doubled up. The next morning my mind was awake, but my body was still very much wanting to sleep. I knew I needed to get up and do some things around the house. Lying in bed, I could see myself walking around the house and moving laundry around, going to the kitchen to take inventory, and just overall fiddling with stuff. But I was also aware that my body was still in bed struggling to actually wake up and move. When I finally did fully wake up, I was so groggy and tired. Never did that again.

Tammie Swinehart

Not much to say. I live in a small town in Indianapolis and work full-time as a manager for an insurance company. I have written poems going back to grade school. They were all horrible, but fun and passed the time. I have journals of poems that go back 40 years. So now that I have more free time, I dig them out, clean them up while preserving the original thought and meaning behind them. more…
