THE WAVE

I have always loved the ocean – the smell, the magnificent view, and most of all watching the waves – how majestic and powerful, yet soothing to me. The waves are sometimes soothing and sometimes very hard crashing, almost violent. Either way I always appreciated the beauty and power of the waves in the ocean.
As my mother was diagnosed with cancer, I could not help relating my feelings back to the ocean. The day she was diagnosed and “that wave” that came over me.  It was one of very hard crashing. The fear, the panic, the feeling of being overtaken by THE WAVE.
As time went on treatments began, and some improvement was happening, there was “that wave”. This wave was one of the ocean calming, and waves coming in and out in a soothing pattern. This went on for a long, long time.  During this time, I held on to my Faith and searched God for strength.
Then when the treatments stopped working, and it was taking such a toll on her body, “that wave” hit and it hit hard.  I could visualize the dark sky, and the waves growing to heights that when they crashed, they overtook the beach sand beneath it.
“The waves” crashed so hard, the sand just gave way and eroded.  This was to me, the feeling of complete and utter knowledge that I could not stop anything.  I was not in control, and I was so so small.
Then the time came, when her time was near. This was the biggest “WAVE” of them all!  It came in like a freight train, barreling full speed, with such power.  This “wave” was so powerful, towering over me, almost overtaking me with the sand it would erode…but then “GOD”
I always knew GOD was with us during this time…but It is then when I realized that GOD is everything….even the “waves”.  He is a constant presence to see me thru every “wave” in my life.
When the ocean was calming, and the waves were constant soothing ripples, with a warm breeze and the sun kissing my skin ever so tenderly…that was GOD.  When the ocean was pounding violent against rocks, eroding the sand beneath it…yet the ROCK remained….That was GOD
As you took your last breath …That HUGE “WAVE” of grief.  That “WAVE” crashed upon my heart so hard, and overtook me for a few moments… But then it happened... The “WAVE” of GOD’s love.
I felt GOD slow the “waves” down that had been crashing for so long, and turn them into soothing ripples.
I looked up and thanked GOD for taking my momma home where she was no longer sick.
And I saw peace, I felt peace, I felt “GODS WAVE”

About this poem

This was written after losing my momma to cancer in 2018. I believe the Lord gave me these words to remind me he was with me the entire time during HER journey home. However HER journey became MY journey and HIS-STORY
