Peace Fields

Azel Wingard 2007 (North Carolina)

Peace Fields

Watching the long grass
blow in Summer’s sea breeze,
while my perfect seat
forms to the field’s soft ground.

Line for line I go,
writing stories for nature.
I write one for the silky grass,
that blows in the direction
of my perfect view.
One for the hillside,
and the grace the water takes,
while wearing down its sharp edges.
Another for the trees,
Mother Nature’s favorite way to woo me,
with their ever so vibrant leaves.
Lastly, one for the wind,
who carries whispers of peace
that glide past my ears.

Mother Nature loves to work,
but these peaceful fields
are her sabbath day
that she spends
eating brunch
alongside me.
