At Eight Years Old, Everything Changed.

i long to be the girl
who dances in the rain
the girl that’s not held down
by any ropes or any chain
and i long to be the girl
who wears her heart on her sleeve
who touches you with hands
and a love that’s so naive
i long to be the girl
who is only eight years old
before she knew the world
to be so critical and cold
i long to be the girl
who never knew rough hands
and i long to be the girl
who didn’t forget how to dance.
