Crossing My Fingers

I tried to cross the ocean 'til
A thunderstorm hit me.
My swaying boat began to fill
With water from the sea!
I left when I felt ill.

A river crossing then became
My goal without a bridge.
The end result was much the same.
 I guess I am bewitched
To think of such an aim.

I then downsized my silly plan
By crossing highway lanes.
The cars came near and so I ran,
But this too was in vain,
Despite how fast I ran.

Although I was just barely tapped,
I got knocked to the ground
And saw that I was almost trapped
With ego thoughts abound
And common sense had lapsed.
