A Solders cry

Timothy Pagans 1972 (Roanoke VA.)

As we marched the birds sang
Flying through the trees with no worries
Knowing what was to come I began to swallow
With deep distress I raised my rifle
All I heard was a ring as I felt the musket ball
I fell to the ground in agony
Hoping it was all a dream
Seems in battle it's hard to know a dream from night mare of reality
I scream out not to be heard by no man
I just want to see my sweet love again
On this day in 1863 I laid by a tree
I'm still calling out but here is where I lay
A soldiers cry that was never heard
