Broken promises

Kristen du Plessis 2008 (Port Elizabeth)

Broken promises
Linger in my head like little menaces
Pricking my heart like a rose thorn to a finger
Making my wound a lot bigger
You promised me the world
But instead I lay in my bed curled
The beautiful lies that you whispered to me
Will stay for eternity
Because a part of me wants them to be true
And not make me see the world in blue
Yet inevitably deep down I know
Our promises will never grow
Into anything more than broken promises
That will always lie in deep abysses
