A Beautiful Rose

Randall Heskett 1960 (Sacramento)

A Beautiful Rose

You are like a beautiful Rose
but you will never lose your beauty.
For within you the glory of nature,
shines to renew the external body.
Your dazzling brilliance shines
    reflecting the light of lights.
Your heart is more precious than gems,
and I cherish it more than a million diamonds.
I have touched, felt, and tasted your heart,
heard its loveliness as you speak,
and I have seen your beauty reflect it.
May the pedals of that rose be cherished,
so that they do not wither.
Though the elements of creation bruise it,
may all hurt and damage be restored.
For you are more lovely than the rose,
and I cherish your fragrant beauty.
