A Lowly Peasant

Shaun Cloonan 1978 (Fountain Valley)

Excuse me sir, can I bother you for the time ..... of my death? Because I have one final wish, before I take my last breath, and meet the dark lord sith. For no great Jedi am I, and the force is not a power I spy. I’m just a lowly peasant accused of some crimes against time. Wasteful, ungrateful, throwing away huge platefuls, the only thing you can’t make up for. The deeds have been done, the songs have been sung, the damage has been done to my lungs. But somehow my heart’s intact, thank God no cardiac! My brains a bit soggy, and my minds a bit foggy, I need to rest and sit down on this loggy. I used to go jogging, but now I’m just shoddy. Relationships I once had, but my temper is bad. Leaving me alone while I sit, trying to figure out where I fit. God I wish I was lit! But that won’t make things better one bit, I think I’m about to have a childish fit. I wish I had a tit that I could suck on for a bit. A sexy woman who doesn’t give a shit. Cause I’m poor, and I’m broke, I’m on the verge of a stroke. I used to have some cars with top-shelf options, but now others are driving them, bought from police auctions. I used to be a pretty bold cat, but now I’m just bald and fat. I once was young and had 20/20 vision, but now I’m just old and can’t see the television, no permission, bad decisions, odd conditions, retaliations, equals scant chance of future reconciliations. I remember being smooth, while on the move. Now I’m just extremely aloof, with only one tooth ..... I forgot where I was at? I think I just shat! Why am I hitting myself with this bat ..... of self-loathing. But after a while, when everything’s final, it won’t matter whatever my wish was, cause I’ll be senile.

About this poem

Just trying to have some fun at my own expense. God knows I need it too cause I can end up taking myself way too seriously at times. This never ends well.
