I want to be your poet.

I want to be your poet,
I want to welcome you into this world
With words of hope and good luck.
I want to to teach you how to
Read,
Write,
Love.
I want to welcome you into your first day of high school,
I want you to sleep in the soft blanket of my words
When those mean girls don’t get what they deserve.

I want to be your poet

I want to guide you through your first love,
Your first dance when you’re too scared to look in his eyes.
I’ll give you the words
When you’re tongue -tied.
I want to teach you how to fight,
I want to teach you how to surrender

I want to be your poet

I want to teach you to be steady,
When your hands shake so violently.
I want to show you that the violence
And the night
Can be followed by a day so bright
You can’t believe it’s yours to keep.

I want to be your poet

I want to open your eyes when you’re 16
And want to die
To the beauty of life.
I want to comfort you when you’re 96 and scared
To close your eyes for the last time.

I want you to see yourself reflected in my words,
Because I see me in you.
From birth to death,
You’re my muse
,Love.

I want to be your poet

I want to be your poet.
