awake

my eyes are burning, but i can’t shut them
because every time they close,
there you are
and in my delusional slumber
i reach out for you
and when my hands are
so close to those dimples on your cheeks
so close to brushing back your long hair
so close to finally touching you

awake.
and you’re gone
& my eyes are burning, but i can’t shut them
because every time they close
you aren’t there
and in this sharp awakening
i watch you dissolve in front of me
and when my hands are
so far from those dimples on your cheeks
so far from brushing back your long hair
so far from ever touching you
awake
