Eternal Summer
I carried my bonnie to the churchyard
By my shoulder, she did cleave
And softly sang her song-of-love into my ear
Upon a misty mid-summer’s eve.
The churchbells rang aloud at dusk
Myrtle blossoms fluttered along with the breeze
Unto yon altar love was calling
With a certain sense of pleasant ease
The songbirds lulled our serenade
Whereupon boughs, their flight did alight
She stayed with me all the live long day
And remained near my side throughout the night
Then on meadow, glen, and glade
She took me to her favorite place
Beneath the country orchard shade
And kissed me with a cheeky face
The dawning sun made bright
our sacred getaway in its light.
Wedded bliss had just begun
As could not ever be undone.
Wherefore, for extraordinary reason
We committed in that solar season
To remain each other’s loyal friend
Till time’s elapse - and without end.
