Sara

It’s weird
to feel this way so strongly
for the first time

It’s hard
when I’ve been this flattered
for the first time

Never had I had a taste
of the experiences you gave me
and though it meant little if nothing to you
it has meant the world to me

It’s weird
how things always go for me
how I would do anything for you
and your feelings are for someone else

Irrationality
drives the two of us
me for you
you for him

Insanity
has taken only me
I can only be happy for you
Everything worked out for you

Dark thoughts
I have revealed to you
You tell me they are innocent

Rejection
Hopelessness
Depression

Depression
isn’t easy
but I live with it
hurts me every day
all day

Happiness
you have brought much into my life
and into me
the words to thank you don’t exist
and the actions aren’t appropriate

My friends
have put up with me
have helped me
kept me going
but not quite like you have

Thoughts
I never think of what I should
I only dwell
And of late you are prevalent
in my head

You have added to my life
and I should be happy to know you
I am
but I wish I could have what I can’t
it’d never work
Things shouldn’t change
but I long

It's hard

About this poem

My good friend, James wrote me this poem back when we first met. He passed away last month and I thought this needed to be shared.
