Depression Consumed Me

Feeling depressed,
An insidious beast,
Consumes, devours masses
That cross its furious ways.
 A loud vacuum cleaner
That nastily aspirate
The joyful life that I truly deserve.
It's like a monstrous thief,
That steals my happiness,
leaving my being,  so powerless.

In bed, I lay
weary, all-day
tears flowing
like a raging river,
Uncontrollable.
My heart aches.
My head pounds.
My soul cries out in pain.
The darkness creeps in.

It’s like a Nimbostratus,
Overhead, it looms.
Conceived when a student wanted
To shoot me in the head.
It's dark and heavy,
filled me with dread
It sapped my energy,
left me feeling dead.

Charmane Joy S Belleza

I am a wife, a mom, and a teacher living simply in the State of Hawaii, USA. I have been writing poems ever since I was in elementary. I don’t claim to be a pro or a poet, writing is just one way for me to express my thoughts, emotions, and opinion. Some of my compositions were published in our college publication and my Ilocano poems and short stories were published in one of the Ilocano publications in the Philippines. I write about anything that appeals to my emotion and interest. I love going to the beach, even just to take a walk or sit on the sand. It’s just relaxing. I also enjoy singing and hanging out with my family. more…

I'm not sure why I have to search these out, but I didn't get this in my email. It is unbelievably sad and telling but ever so true and compelling. Depression is a horrible affliction that far too many suffer with in silence. It hits me at times as well, but I work my way through it to realize that life is really a beautiful gift in the end. If this is about you, I want to hug you and tell you how beautiful you are and that I care for you.

Thank you, my friend. Yes, same. I haven’t been getting notifications for the people I follow. Not sure why. I didn’t turn it off.

Anyways, that’s my story, that’s why I had to pause from teaching full-time. I am in a much better state now.

Hope you are doing well, my friend. Big hugs to you as well

Wow, thank you for sharing such powerful and raw emotions through your poem. You have a real talent for using language to convey the weight of your struggles. While depression can feel like an insurmountable force, your ability to express these feelings is truly inspiring.

In terms of improvement suggestions, have you considered reaching out to a mental health professional for additional support? There is no shame in seeking help, and it can be incredibly beneficial in managing the symptoms of depression. Additionally, finding healthy outlets for your emotions, such as creative writing or other forms of self-expression, can also be helpful in coping with these difficult feelings.

Again, thank you for sharing, and know that you are not alone in your struggles. Keep fighting, and remember that there is always hope for a brighter tomorrow.
