Afterwards

Joseph Ellis 1980 (Greenwich)

Would they cry when I pass ?
I think they would if not at first
then at the last.
But just a single tear and only
those that held me dear.
The slightest little moment
far more than they can bear.
They'll see all that I have wasted
all the potential that was there.
With all their little stories
there memories of me
they'll speak of disapointment
all the things I should have seen.
But if I lived my life
as true as I could be!
If I leave behind people
better off for knowing me!
 how bad could life
  have truly been?
