The Cost of Living

They tell me I’ll get paid
When it’s all been said and done
They tell me I’ll get paid
When all my blood, sweat and tears have run
There’s just one thing, I think you should know
I’m all messed up, with nowhere to go.

They tell me I’ll have fun
When the time is right
They tell me I’ll have fun
When I set my sight
There is no place for me to go
So I walk on down this twisted path, hiding what I know.

They tell me life is a place to learn
From all your ups and downs
They tell me, life is a place to learn about your smiles and your frowns.
There’s just one thing I’ld like to know
When is this life going to grow.

I live my life striving for the future
Escaping the past
My dreams I nurture
There’s just one thing I’ld like to know
When will all the pain go.
