Don’t wake up black

Hasan Johnson 1980 (Peoria Illinois)

Don’t wake up black in America
If you do you in trouble
From A to Z
From head to feet
Your ancestors drop their heads in shame
Don’t wake up black in America
For everything wrong you’re to blame
They still hate us and it’s twenty, twenty three
Don’t wake up black in America
You’ll struggle just like me
Racist cops
Low income jobs
You’re forced into poverty
You’re own family will mistreat you
Ridiculous to the highest degree
I pray you don’t wake up black in America
Dark skin is a sin
It don’t wash off either
No money
No justice
Just jealousy and judgement
They hate it when you’re happy with the situation that you’re in
You accept the disrespect
And pray for them
Vengeance is mine says the Lord
So you smile and walk away
Don’t wake up black in America
Your life is a wasted day
To toil and then go home
If you make it home alive
You’ll be hunted every day until the day you die
