Zimbabwe

Gawie 2002 (Cape Town)

In the heart of Africa lies a small village,
With huts made of mud and straw,
Where the sun sets on the savannah,
And the night sky is bright with stars.

The people here are gentle and kind,
Living off the land they till,
And the children play with joy and laughter,
Their innocent hearts never still.

Here, the baobab trees stand tall and proud,
And the elephants roam free,
In this land of rich diversity.

The villagers gather 'round the blazing fire,
To tell tales of days gone by,
And the elders share their wisdom,
With those who will listen and try.

In this small village, life is simple,
But it's filled with love and grace,
And the people know the value,
Of living in a peaceful place.

For though they may be far from city lights,
And the world may pass them by,
They have all they need in this village,
Under Zimbabwe's vast blue sky.

About this poem

I wrote this poem after I took a trip to Zimbabwe and my train stopped in a remote village.
