Statue of the Night

Oh silent statue, stone and gray,
Who sits alone upon the brink
Of time's rotation, day by day,
With solemn eyes, and silent cries
And every hint of passion gone.

I often find you at this place,
You graven, gloaming, calloused beast.
I'm sure you are a helpless case,
Until I spy the smallest hope,
You smile, then, the break of dawn.

About this poem

People can be this way... but if you manage to get to their hearts, there's often a sunrise waiting to be seen.
