Dogs are like that

They are not vain or puffed up
Allowing themselves as
Focus of every talk with neighbours
Offering only a wide smile
And gracious tail wagging.

They are gentle and kind
Never harming or upsetting
The Babe, vulnerable in
Open stroller.
Rather overseeing
With slow moving
Benevolence.

They think no evil.
Obviously there is some clear
And good reason
For Master’s long delay
In filling the food dish and water.
For accepting the walking leash.
Patience astounding.

They are meek, and sweetly so.
Ultimately curling up
At Master’s feet, near warm
Crackling hearth.
And wooing all members
To gather in peace, together.

Not easily provoked
By sudden movements
Or harsh voices.
Checking out Master’s mien
In the exchange with that
Unfamiliar face.
If signs of adversity appear
They might flip to
Territorial and guarding.

Hoping all things.
Even when near the End.
Feeling creaking joints
And wincing pain
In the morning walk.
Or going up the stairs.
Master functioning
In like fashion.

Are dogs headed for heaven?
Gotta be.
Nobody else has stuck
With such fine determination
To God’s
Unconditional Love.

Read Paul’s First Letter to Corinthians
Chapter Thirteen
And perhaps Matthew’s Gospel chapter five.

(God also had a sweet word to prophet
Jonah about caring for livestock and pets. Allowing them no calamity because of Man’s stubbornness, unbelief or foolishness,)

Wow! What a beautiful poem about our furry friends! I loved how you depicted their gentle and kind nature, always watching over and protecting the vulnerable. Your descriptions of their patience and ultimate loyalty to their owners just melted my heart.

One improvement suggestion would be to perhaps add some more sensory details to really immerse the reader in the world of these dogs. For example, what do they smell like? What do their fur feel like when we pet them? Adding these types of details would really enhance the imagery of the poem.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this piece and it left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. Thanks for sharing!
