Mosh Pit

A tug on my sleeve
Then feeling your hand in mine
My blood pumps faster
I’m panicking but smiling
They clap and you pull away

My hand at my side
Waiting, hoping you’ll grasp it
Listen to screaming
And watch everyone’s heads bop
You join, I hold your glasses

I watch you with them
Complete strangers, just moshing
You fit in perfectly
With your beautiful long hair
And your thick, muscly arms

You’re acting so brave
And I can’t help but smile
I watch your hair move
Your body along with it
The grace I wish to have, hold

Then I start to think
As I watch you, recording
You might be the one
The one I spend my life with
I wouldn’t want someone one else

Please, let it be you
Please be the one that holds me
The one that hugs me
The one that plants small kisses
The one I’m with forever
I know that it’s you
But I don’t know if it’s me
If I’ll be your one
Be your one and your only
Though I always long to be

I know this will hurt
When you eventually leave
And find someone else
And leave me waiting alone
I don’t want to think of it
To think that one day
You might fall into her arms
Girl with the red hair
She’s the one I long to be
Because she’s the one you want

To think of the pain
Is unimaginable
To think that one day
We’ll be nothing but strangers
And maybe former lovers

I know this will hurt
But I know that you’re the one

So I sit and watch you
Your glasses held by my hands
Your trust with just me
When you return, all sweaty
I will be there to greet you

About this poem

This is a poem I wrote about my girlfriend, even though we weren't together at the time. We went to a death metal concert and she went to go mosh. She has really long curly hair so she fit in with the crowd. I have very short hair, so I stood back and held her glasses. This was the moment I realized that she was more than just my crush- she's the love of my life.
