A Prize That We Must Strive For

Oscar Auliq-Ice 1994 (Port Elizabeth)

Freedom, sweet freedom, a precious gift
Born of struggle, yet so swift
The yearning of the human soul
To live and love, to be whole

It calls to us, this voice within
A call to break the chains of sin
To rise above, to be free
To live life in its entirety

Freedom, oh freedom, what joy you bring
With the wind in our hair, we can sing
The songs of the free, the brave, the strong
We dance to the rhythm of life's song

We cherish the moments that we're free
For freedom is not a guarantee
It's a right that must be fought for
A prize that we must strive for

So let us stand, hand in hand
United, free, and truly grand
With hearts that beat as one
Let us claim our freedom, till it's won.
