Jeffrey Powell 1979 (Pittsburgh, PA)
Splinters imbedded in the fissures of my cortex
complexities of feeling ever-ready on recall
fallout scattered amongst the deeper impression
regressing the mind's eye and with it removed
approving of flowing perception
The dawn of novel gratitude within inception
A swift, yet gradual and almost invisible,
indirect dissolution of the flint of impediment
Those very splinters are my true source;
my constant companions
preoccupied with finding me
About this poem
Those 'imbedded splinters' are ego, personality, quirks, or even values that comprise our unique circuit boards from which our behavior extends. What we foster is what endures. Perhaps we need only to get out of the way and our individual makeups can be expressed, whereby we fulfill our purposes.
