Fate

Bailey Pease 2004 (Las Vegas)

She walks the thin line of existence
Careful not to fall
Careful not to topple over
But now she doesn't care at all
She was told to stay on the line
But why she doesn't know
Maybe I should jump she thinks
As she starts to kneel low
Then she pushes off the ledge
And it gets incredibly cold
She keeps on falling into nothingness
Until she gets old
But through her many years
She starts to like the cold
And maybe it's not that bad
But she starts to get bold
She decides that maybe there IS a way
To stop her continuous fall
Then she finally stops
Turns out she controlled her fate after all

About this poem

We are often told to take what life gives to us, however we often fall into a trap of acceptance. Sometimes we just need to grab the steering wheel and take control of our own life.
