Acquaintances

We are acquaintances masquerading as friends,

we have a conversation I wonder when it ends,

impersonal and smoked makeup eyes hidden behind a false veil,

a hidden identity,

she dismantled every sentence spoke with subtlety,

changing the subject,

not revealing anything much at all,

although her cloaked attire almost does,

her face grimacing with each line that disarmed you,

almost like you were filling out a questionnaire,

with answers that you couldn't quite get right,

because it was moderately impossible to figure out,

she appeared 30 minutes late to each gathering,

she stands at the corner of the hall,

studying each opponent,

who was whomever seemed to be interested in approaching,

she sent a glance their way,

to see if they would be interested in her quiet demeanour and poignantly attractive smile.
