Gospel Prologue
Richard Newton Sherrer 1951 (Easton)
There was a man sent from God,
As the light shined in darkness;
And darkness had remained flawed,
He stayed in the wilderness.
For he came as a witness,
Bearing witness to the light;
To gain spiritual fitness,
That others receive insight.
The Baptist was not the light,
But witness to testify;
So that the truth would shine bright,
And nobody could deny.
The true light will come to earth,
Giving light to everyone;
And born from a virgin birth,
God’s only begotten Son.
In the world he but unknown,
Through Him that the world was made;
And He came unto His own,
But no attention was paid.
For their faith could not receive,
To be a godly child;
In Him, they did not believe,
For they had been defiled.
As flesh, the Word had been shaped,
Born not of blood but of God;
From the bonds of sin escaped,
And purifying where flawed.
Word made flesh amongst us dwell,
Glory in the begotten Son;
To escape the grip of hell,
In the Father become one.
