An "Anxious" Trip to the Store

Amber L. Fox 1987 (USA)

Stepping outside the car, walking through the door.....

Pulling myself together, the stares I must ignore....

Clinging to the cart is my only safety net...

One foot in front of the other, I haven't given up yet....

Making my way through the aisles, avoiding all eye contact....

Hoping I can get through this, because man this place is packed!

Feeling pretty dizzy but keep walking anyway....

I can't breathe right, I might pass out....are things in my head I say...

Stumbling to the checkout, can't believe I made it this far...

Scanning my items one by one and booking it to the car...

Finally, feeling safe again, free from all the thoughts.... Driving home, an instant relief, after all the demons i fought....

I'm exhausted from the battle....I'm weak and i feel drained....but I made it through another day, and you will do the same! <3

I have always been interested in and loved Poetry since I was a teen. I remember submitting my first poem on this very site when I was about 13 or 14 years old. I just started writing again so I'm a little rusty....but very excited to get back into it!  more…
