In The In Between

It can be extreme in the in between
From the brightest light to the darkest night
All is not what it seems
Oh how the grey complicates everything

You are but a whisper away
Under the covers of the familiar
Skin touching skin
In bed we lay

In the in between there can be indifference
Our desires and dreams are not shared
They are untold stories
Waiting to be worded into existence

To pull back the curtain
And admit your fears
Reveal your secrets
You tremble anticipating judgment from the one who hears

To think it, then speak it
The universe will receive it
You may go from Eden to scorched earth
In the blink of an eye

Yet moments and feelings cannot be contained
Even when looking at old photos you are not the same
With the turn of a page or the grace of age
Your thoughts shift upon reflection and life’s lessons

Accepting change can be a comfort if you embrace it
Don’t run away, turn around and face it
Whether coming together or tearing apart
Try not to lose yourself, trust your heart

Perhaps you are always in the in between
Employment, relationships, past and future
Whether a state of mind or a tick in time
The in between can be beautiful yet painfully tragic
